Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Below are questions that many individuals have related to Ascend Leadership Academy and charter schools in North Carolina. If you have further questions about ALA feel free to reach out to any member of ALA's administration.
Do I have to pay tuition to attend Ascend Leadership Academy (ALA)?
No. ALA is a tuition-free public charter school. This means students attend for free just like traditional public schools.
How are NC public charter schools managed?
Currently there are well over 180 public charter schools in the state of North Carolina. Each charter school is managed by an independent board of directors who make local policies to govern the school. This means that each charter school is independent from the policies of the local school district. However, all charter schools are accountable to the NC Department of Public Instruction and the NC Office of Charter Schools.
Are services provided for students with IEPs and 504 plans?
Yes, students with disabilities are provided services as outlined in their IEP or 504 plan. ALA has Exceptional Children (EC) teachers to provide these IEP services and 504 Plan coordinators to facilitate 504 accommodations.
Is ALA on a traditional or year-round calendar?
