Do I have to pay tuition to attend Ascend Leadership Academy (ALA)?
No. ALA is a tuition free public charter school. This means that students attend for free just like traditional public schools.
How are NC public charter schools managed?
Currently there are well over 180 public charter schools in the state of North Carolina. Each charter school is managed by an independent board of directors who make local policies to govern the school. This means that each charter school is independent from the policies of the local school district. However, all charter schools are accountable to the NC Department of Public Instruction and the NC Office of Charter Schools.
What grade levels does ALA serve?
ALA will serve students in grades 6-12 when at fully capacity. For the 2020-21 school year ALA will serve students in grades 6-10. For the 2021-22 school year ALA will serve students in grades 6-11. For the 2022-23 school year, ALA will be at full capacity and serve students in grades 6-12.
Does ALA provide bus transportation?
Yes. ALA offers transporation solutions to families who are in need.
Is ALA on a traditional calendar or year round calendar?

Are services provided for students with an IEP or a 504 plan?
Yes. Students with disabilities are provided with services as outlined in their IEP or 504 plan. ALA has Exceptional Children (EC) teachers to provide these IEP services and 504 Plan coordinators to facilitate 504 accomodations.
What is Project Based Leadership (PBLe)?
PBLe is unique to ALA and merges the essentials of traditional project based learning with the 7 Habits of Highly effective people to give students unique learning opportunities where they use their academic knowledge to impact their local community.
Does ALA provide students with computers or other technological devices?
ALA is a 1:1 technology school where every student is assigned a computer/technological device. ALA Middle School students are assigned iPads and ALA High School students are issued chromebooks or laptop computer.
